From Marrakech over the Atlas into the Desert

This journey follows one of North Africa’s historic trade routes — from the vibrant medina of Marrakech across the High Atlas Mountains and into the Sahara Desert.

From imperial architecture to Berber mountain villages and nomadic desert camps, the route unfolds step by step — landscapes shifting from red city walls to green valleys, rocky passes, and golden dunes.

Program Overview

Day 1 – Arrival in Marrakech

Arrival and transfer to your riad. Time to rest or explore the medina at your own pace. Overnight in Marrakech.

Day 2 – Marrakech Cultural Discovery

Guided city tour including:

🌟 Bahia Palace

🌟 Saadian Tombs

🌟 Medina and Jemaa el-Fna

Afternoon at leisure. Overnight in Marrakech.

Day 3 – High Atlas Mountains

🌟 Drive into the High Atlas and arrival in Imlil.
🌟 Meet your local mountain guide and begin hiking in the Toubkal National Park area.
🌟 Overnight in a mountain guesthouse.

Day 4 – Toubkal Region Hiking

🌟 Full-day hike through Berber villages and mountain landscapes near Mount Toubkal.
🌟 Optional mule support available.
🌟 Traditional meals and overnight in refuge or guesthouse.

Day 5 – Aït Ben Haddou & Ouarzazate

🌟 Cross the Atlas toward the south.
🌟 Visit the UNESCO-listed Aït Ben Haddou.
🌟 Stop in Ouarzazate, including the cinema studios.
🌟 Overnight in Ouarzazate or nearby.

Day 6 – Draa Valley to the Desert

🌟 Scenic drive through the Draa Valley.
🌟 Visit Tamegroute, known for its pottery and Quranic library.
🌟 Arrival in M'Hamid El Ghizlane.
🌟 Camel trek into the Sahara and overnight in desert camp.

Day 7 – Nomadic Caravan Experience

🌟 Full-day camel caravan through the dunes.
🌟 Travel like Saharan nomads, learning about desert life and resilience.
🌟 Sandboarding, sunset, silence, and traditional music around the fire.
🌟 Overnight in a nomadic desert camp.

Day 8 – Return to Marrakech

🌟 Sunrise in the desert.
🌟 Camel ride back to M’Hamid.
🌟 Return drive to Marrakech and drop-off at your riad or airport.
