Workshop
Desert Cuisine – Meet the Desert Women
Come with curiosity, leave with knowledge — and recipes to take home
Desert Foodways
In the south of Morocco, cooking is more than preparation of food. It is a daily practice of care, transmission, and connection to land and community. Recipes are not written — they are carried over generations in memory, in gesture, and in shared experience.
Desert cuisine reflects movement and exchange. Influenced by Moroccan and sub-Saharan traditions, it is shaped by what the land offers: grains, dates, herbs, spices, and seasonal vegetables. Meals are simple, nourishing, and prepared with attention.
Bread, tagine, and tea are not only dishes — they are rituals that structure the day and bring people together.
The Workshop Experience
This unique workshop invites food lovers and curious travelers to discover the rich flavors of the desert, guided by local women guided who share generations of culinary knowledge and traditions.
During this hands-on cooking class, participants will:
🌸 prepare traditional dishes using fresh, local ingredients and aromatic spices
🌸 learn techniques for bread baking, tagine preparation, and tea-making
🌸 understand the role of spices, timing, and intuition in Moroccan cooking
🌸 share stories, gestures, and everyday knowledge with the women who host you
Set in a peaceful desert environment, this workshop is more than just cooking — it’s a cultural journey. Guests will experience the hospitality of southern Morocco, the simplicity of desert life, and the joy of creating and sharing meals together.

Program
The workshop takes place in the heart of the Draa Valley, at the charming Bab Arouane Guest House in M’Hamid El Ghizlane—the gateway to the Sahara.
After arrival and welcome with tea, you begin the preparation of the meal together with the women. Ingredients are selected, spices are prepared, and dishes are cooked step by step.
Bread is baked in the traditional way, tea is prepared and shared, and the meal is enjoyed together in a simple and warm atmosphere.
Depending on the format, the experience can extend into the evening, allowing time to slow down, rest, and remain present in the rhythm of the place.
Includes: Culinary workshop, shared meal, tea, local ingredients, translation and transfer to Bab Arouane Guest House and back.
Our Approach
We collaborate with local women who share their knowledge through lived and professional practice. Cultural exchange is based on dignity, consent, and mutual respect — never performance.
Our work follows the principles of slow tourism and responsible, low-impact travel. We honor desert culture, its traditions, and the natural environment that sustains it.
Each encounter is designed to foster empowerment, connection, and inner balance — for our guests and for the women who host them.
